Sumrall evened the
3A south state series against Purvis last night by score of 17-2 in
a five inning game. Both teams are set to square off again tomorrow
night at 6:00 in Sumrall for the final game of the 3A South State Championship.
Sumrall got the
bats going scoring five runs in the first inning. Austin Pace
led off with a stand up double who scored the first run off a base hit
by Jake Hawkins. Three batters later, Jim Roseberry hit
a three run homerun and gave the Bobcats a 5-0 lead after pitcher, Kyle
Sumlin shut down the side of the first. After a walk by Eathan
Applewhite in the top of the third, Jim Roseberry hit another homerun
to give the Bobcats 10-1 lead going in the fourth. Sumrall pitcher,
Kyle Sumlin went the distance giving up five hits, two walks
and striking out five batters. Adrian Lee went 2-for-2 and a
walk, with a double and a sinlgle. Jim Roseberry went 2-for-2
with two home runs and five RBIs. Jake Hawkins went 2-for-3 with
two doubles and two RBIs. Jared Miller hit for catcher Trey Wade
in the fourth smashing a grand slam over the center-field wall.
As for Purvis, it
was a long night for pitchers Brice McWilliams and Nathan
Herrin. McWilliams started the game who's only bright spot came
in the second inning when he managed to get the first three batters
to all ground out. After that, it was all Sumrall. In the third inning,
head coach Tony Farlow, decided to replace McWilliams with Herrin. McWilliams
gave up nine runs while Herrin gave up eight runs.
